Graduation Speech- Carmen Georgescu, Alumni Representative Executive MBA Class 2020

Dear professors, fellow graduates, friends and family,

  1. It is an honor and a pleasure to speak before you today for this so long awaited occasion!
  2. We have at least two reasons to feel happy and excited tonight as for two out of three generations present, this is both a graduation ceremony and a graduate reunion.
  3. Somehow it feels like we passed our last exam yesterday, while weirdly, it also feels like it was a lifetime ago.
  4. Many things have changed since then, while some others did not change at all.
  5. We moved on from what three years ago seemed to be the crisis of a generation – the pandemic, to something that makes the pandemic seem insignificant altogether! War, energy crisis, hyperinflation…
  6. The admirable thing, though, is that we all managed to keep our head high through it all and I am sure we will continue to do so, come what may!
  7. Following our MBA studies some of us changed their employer, some others, even more radically, became self employed or vice versa, or even both combined.
  8. Some of us had children, or even more children, others, myself included, were outgrown and surpassed by our children!
  9. More importantly, I think it is fair to say that we have all progressed in our professions and in our personal lives, and for this, as for our long awaited diplomas, we, my friends and colleagues, deserve to be congratulated!!!
  10. I think that for many of us the MBA was somewhat of a turning point in our lives, and if nothing else it was the proof of our determination and ambition to turn things around, as we all know that pretty as it was, it was not easy!
  11. Yes, there were moments when we played hard, but we also worked hard and most of us have been working even harder since!
  12. While, as I was saying, many things have changed, some others have not: We are all just as young and beautiful as we were three years ago, we all still enjoy a good laugh, I hope we will party tonight as we did in the old days, and, as before any important exam, in order to be fully prepared for today, I started working on my speech last night at 10 PM. For that reason, I have been standing here before you going through my notes during the examination, and can only rely on my friends support and cheers to pass!
  13. Ladies and gentlemen, colleagues and friends, ASEBUSS alumni of 2020, it was a pleasure and an honor to know you, work alongside with you and represent you, so once and for all, congratulations to us all! Let’s give us a last round of applause!

  1. Thank you!
